Shanyce L. Campbell, PhD

Dr. Shanyce L. Campbell is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Urban Education and the Department of Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education. Dr. Campbell’s research focuses on understanding how policies and practices influence access to quality learning opportunities for students of color. While her work employs mixed methods, qualitative and quantitative methods, another area of research focuses on the freedom dreams for liberatory quantitative methodologies. Dr. Campbell’s work has appeared in several journals, including American Educational Research Journal, Educational Researcher, and Race, Ethnicity, and Education. In 2019, she received the Palmer O. Johnson Memorial Award for the most outstanding article appearing in an AERA-sponsored journal. Dr. Campbell is also a National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Campbell earned her bachelor of science in accounting with a concentration in economics from North Carolina A&T State University and her Ph.D. in public policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
