Christy L. McGuire, PhD, EdD

Christy McGuire is a learning scientist, social science researcher, and lifelong learner. She is currently the Community Engagement Program Manager with the Center for Urban Education. Since earning a Ph.D. in cognitive and experimental psychology from Georgia Tech in 2001, Christy has worked in various education-related workspaces, including an international nonprofit and national for-profit, as well as co-founding an educational technology startup. She has served as a volunteer science fair judge for both regional and international science fairs since 2007, and as a program specialist in education and training with the Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education since 2018. Most recently, she completed an Ed.D. at the University of Pittsburgh, examining white teachers’ beliefs about discussing race and racism in the classroom. She is particularly interested in working with educators around the ways that knowledge and beliefs inform and influence their pedagogical practices, as well as in exploring humans’ various ways of knowing.
